Inside the House
Our Orange Kitchen Phone
An orange vintage phone brings everyday memories back into our kitchen.
You probably still remember the phone number.
The phone that stayed home
We used to know so many of them by heart. Our grandparents’ number, our best friend’s, our parents’ work. The phone had its spot in the house, and when it rang, you could hear it from another room. Someone would answer and yell through the house that it was for you.
You stretched the cord as far as it would reach when you wanted a little privacy, but someone could pick up another phone in the house and hear your entire conversation.
Before caller ID, you answered without knowing who was calling. A busy signal meant hanging up and trying again later. If you were waiting for an important call, you stayed close to home because the phone stayed there when you left.
None of those things felt special at the time. They were just part of everyday life.
Everyday sounds, lasting memories
Now you see a house phone and remember details you probably haven’t thought about in years. Where yours hung. The sound of it ringing through the house. The people you talked to and all the conversations that happened right there beside it.
That’s one of our favorite things about vintage. Something that was once so ordinary can bring back an entire part of your life.

A little orange in our kitchen
We found this orange phone while we were out sourcing and hung it in our kitchen the same day. It’s just for decoration, but we love having it there. We have vintage phones throughout our home, and this one felt right at home in our kitchen.
