Good to Know

FLOWER POWER 🌼

Explore Flower Power, from its 1960s roots to bold vintage florals in our homes, wardrobes and favorite collections.

Orange floral curtains and wallpaper in a vintage kitchen

We love all things Flower Power! You’ll often see it in our shows, and we have plenty around our home. Those big, funky flowers are some of our personal favorites, and we know a lot of you love them just as much as we do.

For some of you, these patterns might bring back memories of the house you grew up in. Maybe it was the kitchen wallpaper, the bedsheets, the bath towels or the flower covered canisters sitting on the counter. There was no shortage of places to put a flower in the ’60s and ’70s!

A little history behind the flowers

It’s always Good To Know more about the vintage and antiques we love.

Flower Power has a little more history behind it than home decor.

In the 1960s, flowers became a symbol of peace. People carried them at peace protests, wore them in their hair and used them on clothing and posters. By the Summer of Love in 1967, Flower Power had become part of the culture.

By the late ’60s and into the ’70s, those flowers were showing up all over the home. Big blooms, bold colors and funky floral patterns covered wallpaper, bedding, dishes, towels, kitchen canisters and plenty more. 🌼

Flower Power finds new life

Now Flower Power is having another moment, and we love seeing all the ways people are bringing it back! Vintage bedsheets are being turned into clothing and bags, old towels are finding new life as one of a kind pieces, and those familiar floral patterns are showing up in homes again.

Some people are lucky enough to still have the originals, while others are finding them at antique malls, thrift stores and estate sales. Whether you grew up surrounded by these flowers or you’re discovering them for the first time, there are so many ways to enjoy them today.

Let’s fill the comments with Flower Power! 🌼

Whether these flowers bring back memories of your childhood home or you’ve loved them for years, we want to hear about it. Share a memory, tell us what you love about Flower Power, or show us the pieces you have around your home. We can’t wait to see all the different ways you love it! 💜💚
